Junior Hockey in the AreaWhat is Junior Hockey? It is hockey programs for players under the age of 20. There are many levels of Junior Hockey. Major Juniors - these are leagues located in Canada - the OHL, the WHL and the QMJHL. These leagues are considered appropriate for NHL bound kids. If you play in these leagues you end up losing your NCAA eligibility in the United Sates though you may remain eligible for Canadian university hockey programs. Increasingly money is offered towards education. Junior A - Junior A programs in the United States and Canada are the highest level of competition for college bound kids. The most succesful league in the United States is the USHL. Junior B- a mid level of NCAA eligible leagues. You often find some young kids under 16 years old playing in these teams and they are just gaining maturity before they look for a team in the USHL. Junior C - these prgrams are growing and are providing a great way for under 20s to continue playing hockey after their Minor Hockey careers Washington Junior NationalsThe "Junior Nats" Junior B - College Developmental. They play in the Atlantic Hockey League. Their home ice rink is at Bowie Ice Arena. Virginia Statesmen
This is Junior C - college developmental. They play in the Mid Atlantic Developmental Hockey League. Home rink is Skatequest at Reston Philosophy The Virginia Statesmen Junior Hockey Program is a year-round program designed to improve the hockey and life skills of youth hockey players. Players skate and train up to 11 months a year in an environment designed to help motivate individuals to maximum their hockey potential. Players need to display the desire to learn, understand and master the key skills and strategic elements of the game. Maximum effort, teamwork, proper communication and respect are stressed over wins and losses.The program consists of two components. The first is the Junior Development Program, which assists teenage players in reaching their hockey goals through a series of clinics, camps, off-ice training and chalk talks, in addition to occasional private consultations and group lectures. Progression through the Development Program may also result in the second component: playing for the Virginia Statesmen Junior Hockey Team.__
